Blockchain has been hailed as a potential solution to many of the problems facing the healthcare industry, with its ability to securely and privately track health records. However, a recent article by Rich Rupp suggests that the technology is not yet ready to be used in the healthcare sector. Rupp points out that a critical mass of users and data is necessary for blockchain to be effective, and in healthcare, no one wants to be the first to adopt the technology. In addition, the lack of a uniform standard for the technology across the industry makes it difficult to implement on a wide scale. Rupp concludes that while blockchain has potential in healthcare, it is not yet ready to be used to fix the industry’s many problems.
